“Isolation is the glue which holds oppression in place”
In the aftermath of extreme violence, individuals,
families, communities and entire societies too
often experience psychic warfare between
competing impulses: to find the time for sorrow and
grief or to forestall the grieving in search of revenge
and retaliation, to acknowledge and share stories of
atrocity and humiliation with trusted others or to
protect those others by burying these stories in
layers of secrecy and camouflage, to search for
pathways to reconciliation and repair or to pass on
to successive generations the burden of unrelenting
enmity.
Our collective work has taught us over and over
again that healing requires narrative- a narrative that
is listened to and truly heard, and a narrative that
compels and directs restorative action.
These themes organize our approach to working
with individuals, families, groups, organizations and
communities seeking pathways to healing from
traumatic events. We listen carefully to each request
and craft an intervention accordingly.
